Major Nelson, Xbox Live’s Director of Programming, has confirmed that the newly announced Xbox Originals titles will not feature achievements and thus there will be no advantage to buying them on Xbox Live over buying them on disc (in most cases, the games are far cheaper to buy on disc preowned).
